From January 17 to 21, Tan Tieniu, Chair of NJU CPC Council and
Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences led a delegation to Hong
Kong SAR.
Tan called on Leung Chun-ying, Vice-chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), John Lee
Ka-chiu, the Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative
Region (SAR), Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor, the former Chief Executive of
the Hong Kong SAR, and Zheng Yanxiong, Director of the Liaison Office of
the Central People's Government in the Hong Kong SAR.
He also visited University Grants Committee (UGC), the Education Bureau,
the Hong Kong Science Park (HKSK) and the Hong Kong Cyberport.
The delegation visited the University of Hong Kong (HKU), the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST), the Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU), the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) and the
City University of Hong Kong (City U), where they signed a memorandum
cooperation.
Tan also took NJU delegation to visit representatives of NJU alumni in
Hong Kong as well as Hong Kong entrepreneurs, organizations and patriots
who have long supported the development of NJU.

Tan called on Leung to introduce latest achievements of NJU-Hong Kong cooperation
since his visit to Hong Kong in January 2024.

Tan called on Carrie Lam to introduce the progress in the construction of NJU Suzhou
campus and new engineering disciplines.

Tan and John Lee exchanged information about developments of projects and
platforms for cooperation with Hong Kong, such as the national affairs study
program for Hong Kong civil servants, the Special Fund for Jiangsu-HK Science and
Innovation Cooperation, and the Jiangsu-Hong Kong-Macao University Alliance.
Tan visited the five aforementioned universities, met with leaders of the eight
important universities in Hong Kong, had in-depth exchanges with directors of the UGC, the Research Grants Council, the Education Bureau, and Centre for Artificial Intelligence and Robotics (CAIR) of Hong Kong Institute of Science & Innovation, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and reached a number of consensus on topics such as giving full play to the advantages of their respective
disciplines and resources, creating a platform for academic exchanges, setting up joint laboratories or joint research institutes, and working together to
promote the development of higher education and scientific research and
innovation in Hong Kong and Jiangsu.

In the future, Nanjing University will focus on the national strategic needs, and work with universities and research institutes in Hong Kong to jointly develop pragmatic cooperation in education and research.
Tan also took the delegation to visit the HKSK and the Cyberport to gain an in-depth understanding of the latest layout of Hong Kong's high-tech industry
and the Hong Kong SAR Government's funding policies for innovative
technology enterprises. He also visited a few representatives of Hong Kong
entrepreneurs.
